- Purpose of Establishment
The risk of a decline in Japan’s international competitiveness is increasing; this, combined with an ongoing shortage of overseas workers, is likely to lead to Japan losing its position as the location of choice for high-skilled human resources. Indeed, even those who come from abroad to study in Japan, a potential source of skilled manpower, are turning their backs on the country and electing to work elsewhere. The well-documented decline in Japan’s birth rate and its ageing population underlines how critical it is that the country opens its doors to overseas labour. Without this countermeasure, Japan will suffer from a shortage of high-skilled human resources. In recent years, in the number of people visiting and settling in Japan, Vietnamese account for a high proportion of these. As a result, both countries have striven to build and cement international exchange bridges. However, during my time as a university teacher, I have always felt that undergraduate students show little interest in international affairs and that precious few opportunities exist to exchange education and academia. This observation is widely shared and, when voiced, always makes me worry about the future of Japan, Vietnam, and Asia. Hence my desire to contribute, in however small a way, to the development of international exchanges throughout Asia, emphasizing Japan and Vietnam. With the issues mentioned above in mind, we set up the “Asia Future Association” to expand knowledge, strengthen the ties between Japan and Vietnam, and extend this network across other Asian countries by developing the above human resources.
