At the invitation of Japanese government, H.E. Mr. Vo Van Thuong, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and Madam Phan Thi Thanh Tam made an official visit to Japan from November 27th to 30th, 2023.
The visit by President Thuong and Madam took place alongside numerous activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations (established on 21 September 1973) between Japan and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
On the first day of their stay in Japan, the President held a meeting with 15 representatives who have contributed to political, economic and educational exchange between Japan and Vietnam. Chairman Nguyen Thuy and Professor Takahashi Rui were among the invitees.
The visit by the President and his spouse culminated in a joint statement with Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, elevating the status of Japan-Vietnam relationship to a ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World.’ This declaration confirms that cooperation between Japan and Vietnam will be further enhanced across various domains with an emphasis on a close-knit fellowship between the countries. The commemoration of this anniversary establishes an optimistic foundation for the next 50 years of cooperation, reflecting the President’s motto during this visit: “’true friendship, reliable partnership, and strategic cooperation for a sustainable future.”’
Vietnam is striving towards the goal of becoming a high-income country by 2045. It is expected that Vietnam will emerge as a significant presence, akin to a second Japan, demonstrating greater influence than ever before. Japan, in turn, is strongly anticipated to further expand its presence in Asia through robust cooperation with Vietnam, fostering a mutually beneficial partnership.
